About the Bibliothèques Mazarine & de l’Institut de France: The Mazarine and Institut de France Libraries hold one of the most important collection of heritage materials (manuscripts, incunabula, drawings, rare books…) in France. Mazarine Library, originated in the private collections of Cardinal Mazarin (1602-1661), was opened to scholars in 1643, making it France’s oldest public library; it is still open to everyone nowadays. The Institut de France Library, devoted to the five academies since 1795, is a research Library, for accredited researchers only.
