About the Moody Medical Library: The Truman G. Blocker, Jr. History of Medicine Collections in the Moody Medical Library at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is home to the largest and most significant collection of rare books on the history of the biomedical sciences in the southwestern United States. The collection consists of 20,000 volumes dating to the late 14th century with preeminent works in anatomy, immunology, microbiology, psychiatry, and occupational medicine. The 130 year old University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is the nation’s first medical school and hospital under unified leadership and the oldest medical school west of the Mississippi River.
